The Centennial Wheel at Navy Pier Chicago (IL), USA
Started operations in May 2016 as part of the centennial celebrations of the Pier.
The wheel is located at the iconic Navy Pier in Chicago. Before the Centennial Wheel was built, there was another Ferris wheel. This Ferris wheel was also built by Dutch Wheels in 1995, when it was still part of Vekoma Rides Manufacturing B.V.
The wheel was relocated to Branson where it became the Branson Ferris wheel. More information about this Ferris wheel can be found at the installed base.
The Centennial Wheel was built to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Navy Pier. The modern and impressive design of this Ferris wheel fits well in the large-scale regeneration project, further strengthening its position as one of the top destinations in Chicago.
The choice for a WS60 was fairly obvious. The bigger gondolas and more impressive design are a perfect match for the high visitor numbers at Navy Pier. This wheel also has more luxuries such as automatic electric doors, which improve ease of operation.
A high resolution video globe is placed in the centre of the wheel. Photos and videos can be displayed giving it numerous options to enhance the experience of the passengers, or to be used for marketing activities.
